I just read this article today about the famous painting. For some reasons, I always loved this portrait.

Mona Lisa, or La Gioconda (La Joconde) is a 16th-century portrait painted in oil on a poplar panel by Leonardo Da Vinci. Perhaps the most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa is the subject of a great deal of theorizing and speculation.
Many aspects of the painting have been subject to speculation such as the identity of the model, the original size of the painting, whether there were other versions of it, and various explanations for how the effect of an enigmatic smile was achieved.
Yes, it must be because of the enigmatic smile…

No, not me (at least not recently; and they couldn’t prove it, so just drop it)…

Thanks to the bloke who sent this in and in response to your letter, No! I will not do what you asked and I have sent the ‘items’ you enclosed to the Police, together with your contact details. Weirdo.

Shying away from publicity

Shying away from publicity

Whilst one tries to shun publicity, you can never be too sure about those paparazzi hanging around all over the place, outside of every bar I frequent (and some I don’t like to be associated with). One ‘casual’ photo later and it gets everywhere, the news wires just pick it up and run with it, I am all over the place again. So it is with some horror that I spied yet another article all about me – this was whilst commuting to my favorite WiFi coffee ‘bar’ – there is just no getting away from me. Of course, once I had swiped the copy of the magazine from the bloke reading it and struck his fierce glare down with a simple smile, I was even more horrified that the factual contents were as far from the facts as the average government report on offical corruption (three Chinchilla farms! where do they get this stuff from; and I do not drive a silver, hard-top convertible Opel Tigra! Silver! the shame).

Oh faithful followers, I just want you to know to never believe all that you read about me, especially concerning my adored Chinchillas (and they are fully apartment trained and have never pooped on the dining table, especially not in front of dining guests); that incident with the washer/dryer has just got out of hand and I wish they would just stop referring to it. Love to you all.

Yesterday was not my birthday, but I would like to thank all for this great surprise!

A green balloon, a flaming cake, nice people singing and clapping in their hands… It was simply perfect (and not embarrassing at all).

Again thank you, from the heart.

I received many emails from my fans asking me why, with such obvious good looks, I never tried to make a career in the cinema. Well, dear readers, I actually did! This was back in the end of the 70s, I was the lead actor in a low budget science fiction movie, ground-breaking in its use of special effects and unique plot.

I found the trailer, so you can judge by yourself:

Unfortunately for us, our movie premiered on May 26th 1977, just one day after another science fiction movie that strangely had a very similar plot… This marked the beginning and premature end of my career in the industry.

But maybe one day I will make my come back, who knows?

Beware, Tora may strike back!

STOP! Tora Time July 24, 2008

Still reeling from having my signature moves AND sound stolen by that Elvis Presley character, it became clear that I had to reinvent myself.  I invented two new spectacular dance moves.  The Running Chinchilla (see picture) and Happy Chinchilla Feet, which involves pointing both feet outward, bending my knees a bit, and running side to side very quickly.  It’s much harder than it looks!  Be especially careful not to try it while crossing the Charles Bridge after 5 too many Pilsner Urquells, or you too will end up swimming in the Vltava.

The dance didn’t quite take off in Europe as I had hoped.  A few years later, would you believe that another one of those plagiaristic Americans managed to capitalize off my ideas and make MILLIONS?  Do you have any idea how many Chinchillas I could have saved with that money?!  I’m quite bitter about it.  You know what? I bet someday that guy will lose all his money and go bankrupt, all because he didn’t donate to the Chinchilla cause.  Alas, my friends, in the face of adversity, rest assured that my spirit won’t be broken.

You can’t touch Tora.  Nobody can

Back in the 90s, this is how I learned all about the secrets of working from home…

Tomasz: You know what the funniest thing about Europe is?

Tora: What?

Tomasz: It’s the little differences. I mean, they got the same stuff over there that they got here, but it’s just – it’s just there it’s a little different.

Tora: Example.

Tomasz: All right. Well, you can walk into a cafe in Amsterdam and “work from home”. And I don’t mean just with like a wired connection, I’m talking about proper WiFi. And in Paris, you can “work from home” at McDonald’s. And you know what they call a FCC Approved WiFi Hotspot in Paris?

Tora: They don’t call it a FCC Approved WiFi Hotspot?
Tomasz: Nah, man, they got the EC system. They wouldn’t know what the hell a FCC Approved WiFi Hotspot is.

Tora: What do they call it?

Tomasz: They call it a “Wee Fee ‘otspot.”
Tora: A “Wee Fee ‘otspot.”

Tomasz: That’s right.
Tora: What do they call Dial-up?

Tomasz: Dial-up is Dial-up, but they call it “Le Dial-up”.

Tora: “Le Dial-up.” [laughs] What do they call AirPort?

Tomasz: I dunno, I didn’t go into an Apple Store. But, you know what they put on Home Routers in Holland instead of WiFi?

Tora: What?

Tomasz: Cables.

Tora: God damn!

Tomasz: I seen them do it, man, they really drown them in those wires!

Tora: That’s some weird stuff.

Do you have any great ideas about me, volcanoes, chinchillas or working from home? Yes? Well, send me a prototype and the best ones will be mass produced and proposed in the Tora Online Catalogue! Of course the winners will be greatly rewarded.

So all this being said… let the competition beginning, and may the best one win!

So Tora TM!

The ToraTM T-Shirt is guaranteed 100% chinchilla-friendly.

I just wanted to mention in regards to the previous post that I managed to negociate with Mattel that a decent percentage of the benefits in selling the Tora-doll would be donated to my Chinchillas Foundation, as it’s already the case with the benefits from my best-seller “Will Work from Home“.

Same with this new ultra-cool Tora t-shirt, for which 100% of the selling price will be donated to Chinchillas in need all over the world.

Is there a better way to look SO fashion AND help the community?

“Et Voila!”, During the last Golden Globe celebration, I just came with my good friend Beyonce to check if the Wifi was working during the evening diner – I had many “work-from-home” things to catch up…

Few days after, Mattel sent me a picture taken during the event, along with the prototype on the left. After “Barbie” and its worldwide success, Mattel wants now to explore a new market, and launch a New Jet-Set doll: the “Tora” – with Wifi detector included…

Yeah… I know, every children around the world will now take their Tora doll with them to check if their is a “Wifi to work from home” network available in a decent perimeter.

Please buy it! as part of the benefits is going to finance directly my Chinchillas Foundation!

The other day I ran into these smart & handsome looking guys from the What Effect Does Wi-fi Have On A Chinchilla (W.E.D.W.H.O.A.C) Research Institute based in the north-eastern outskirts of Prague. These guys were fascinating and really passionate about their work. Best of all I love the fact that these guys still maintain hairstyles and ties from the 60s. Right on! I’m sure you’re wondering what was I doing with my time up that way in the first place (lol)… well signing autographs and having lots of photos taken of course following the success of my recent book “Will Work from Home” (available at all quality bookstores nationwide – RRP US 24.95). You know you should do me yourself a favour and buy yourself a copy! (Please note I will be donating 5% of the profits made from sales of my book (between the hours of midnight and 3am next Tuesday) to W.E.D.W.H.O.A.C. in support of their important work!).

Pioneer Times

Me, Bill and the Pioneers of BASIC, the Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction for Chinchillas

Not many people know that fact, but I am a real gadget fan, obsessed with technology, looking for the latest gizmo that will change my life and the universe.

Back in the seventies I even joined a group of dreamers who wanted to change the world, like me. But after wonderful times with them I did found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself… I had to leave them when they rejected my idea to name our community Chinchilla-soft… What a waste… We could have healed the world back then, make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race…

Now I’m catching up all this time lost. You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one. You reading this blog, my friend, is a step in the right direction. And you should consider joining my Chinchilla’s foundation as well. Amen.

Liberty and WiFi for All

As an international jet-setter, people ask what is my favorite ‘home working’ city.  It has to be the city that has lots to do and see, plenty of hot-spots, unusual entertainment activities, the city that never sleeps – Bangkok New York.

So why did I leave?

Well, following the recent renovation of the famous statue (see right) it is almost like I never left.

The Tora

The Tora

You may have already noticed, I am getting a little fame because of this natural charisma that everybody can feel around me. I’d like to say that, if I am a model for all of you, I always let people benefit of my life’s experience. But don’t get me wrong, I don’t advertise it, the things are moving smoothly and people get better being in touch with me.

Once, I was out to research an un-discovered WIFI Hot Spot near by Jericho and Jerusalem, and I heard a voice, strong and deep like a heart beat of Mrs. Snaggletooth. I turned around looking for the origin of the voice and faced a “Burning ADSL WIFI Router” plugged nowhere but still up and running with a fast connection… You can imagine my surprise when I realized that I was connected to GOD itself! After a while I understood that he wanted me to give my name to a little book that he just wrote. He needed to give a bit of credibility to a fairytale call Genesis. Because GOD is usually having good will I agreed and that is why you may see for a couple of century my name on a few books and parchments.

I love to discover new Wifi Access point everywhere i go. I wanted to try one of these fancy Nespresso coffee shops in Prague, where people are nice looking, and where coffee doses are full of color (like from a rainbow…).

I met there George. George is a cool guy, not as self-confident as me, but great in a sens. I told him: “George! why don’t you get a Chinchilla like my Mrs. Snaggletooth ?” – he watched the 2 beautiful women leaving the shop and said… “yeah Chinchilla, What else uhm?!…” I told him, “Man you can make an advertising from that! why not for this shop and all other shops around the world?” “Good Idea, he replied, but don’t you want to do it ? i mean it is YOUR Chinchilla” – “Naaaaa it is ok. i don’t want to have my face and my chinchilla on the walls in every single Nespresso shop around the world. Mrs. Snaggletooth doesn’t drink coffee”

What you see in picture is the original advertising protoype we did that very same day! George, if you read me, I am so happy of the success you have now with Nespresso.

Antarctica – Exploring Underwater Volcanoes with the Penguins. July 17, 2008

This is the story of how I came to live with the penguins for a full year:

It was a Sunday morning, Mrs. Snaggletooth carried the morning paper from the foryer to my bedroom, as she did everyday, I flipped through to the help wanted section only to find the help wanted ad that would change my life:

Men Wanted: For hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.

It sounded so enticing that I immediately called the number provided, and was asked to arrive at the harbour for an interview that afternoon.  The man with whom I spoke said his name was Shacklebum, I charmed him with my singing and he said that he liked the look of me, hiring me on the spot.

The following day I said goodbye to Mrs. Snaggletooth and arrived at the harbour prepared for my journey to Antarctica. Our journey was perilous, but whisky and song help us through.  Upon arriving in Antarctica I suffered from a very serious bout of laringitis, and I was unable to sing for weeks.  The ship was planning to leave Antarctica as winter was moving closer, but they refused to let me board as without my singing voice, I was of no use to them.  There I was with the penguins… all alone, and without even an internet connection.

As time passed, I came to be one of the penguins,  I ate fish, I rode the ice luge, I even took the pelts of the dead penguins and sewed together a penguin suit.  As my voice returned I found penguin love, sharing songs with these beautiful creatures.  As my penguin pelt suit became complete I was able to start diving with the penguins to explore underwater volcanoes.  It is unfortunate that the lense of my underwater camera broke, and I am not able to share their underwater beauty with you.

Despite the joy of spending this time with the penguins, I began to yearn for Mrs.Snaggletooth’s company, and the warm neon lights of my corner karaoke bar.  It was agreed that my penguin family would escort me across the ocean in my penguin pelt to Patagonia, where I could continue on my journey home.  The pelt kept me warm, and my escorts pulled me along when I became too tired to swim.  After 54 hours of swimming, we arrived in Patagonia and had our tear filled goodbyes.

The first 3 ships I tried to hitch to Buenos Aires wouldn’t pick me up in my penguin pelt suit, but you know what they say, “4th time is a charm”, and the 4th ship I was able to flag down provided me with a jumpsuit to change into, and took me all the way to Panama… but that is a story for another day.

Wor'King' from Home

Wor'King' from Home

Many years ago I had a successful singing career. People rushed to buy my records and I was top of the Billboard Top 100 for months.  Before long a young singer set up a tribute band to me.  He copied my singing, my moves and even my fashion sense (although he never got his hands on a yellow sweater).
This “great pretender”, Elvis Presley, soon began to cast a shadow on my illustrious self and so I had to take legal action.  Unfortunately, before the case was resolved he feigned death and the resulting public scandal forced me to retire from the music industry.

Recently I was tempted out of retirement to stage a “Chinchilla Aid’ concert in Las Vegas. Many people just don’t realise how many chinchillas around the world live below the poverty line, their jobs replaced by hamsters and gerbils. It makes my blood boil!  Anyway, I digress. The concert was just like old times, a massive sell out screaming fans and women throwing their underwear on stage.  This was useful as my busy schedule meant I had run out of clean laundry and needed some replacements.

I was still humming the old tunes when a volcanologist friend of mine asked me later the same week “Tora, why are you always dragging me into active craters to pick up cooling rocks?”.
I replied, ♫♫ “Wise men say, only fools rush in; but I can’t help fondling lava with you” ♫♫.

Lately I realized that you cannot live without giving a bit of your time to the others. And I like to give to others…

It is at that time that came up the idea from my old friend Mark Twain… “I have to write a book!” And here we go, day by day having a though and writing it down. After a week I got about 600 pages from which I could not remove a word. The book (I mean the master piece) has been the published in 154 different countries and translated in 45 languages and slangs. It is not really a success with just over 2 billions of readers, but I hope that having it now online and for free will increase the ratio.

This gave me a little amount of cash to start my future Chinchilla’s foundation.

The book reviewer’s comments were really good, this is probably because it touches them closely, as they are most likely working from home and having a Chinchilla as best friend (which I recommend).

Mark Twain is pushing me to start another “best sellers” but I don’t really want to go to deep in the process of writing book, I like to much my job and Chinchillas are still my priority.

Oscars and Me (I am the one on the right)

For many years I have found sanctuary at award ceremonies. It is not all a case of hanging out with people you want to be with, but its the mutual caring and sharing appeal that makes all the difference. Believe me, the thrill of attending award ceremonies wears off after the first five years, but at least now I can take my laptop along and do some work from the auditorium; they really have improved the WiFi in recent years, in fact it is rather like working from home except it is more spacious and more friends can join me; thinking about it the coffee is better than at home. I like to arrive early, at least two days in advance – no really, the WiFi and coffee are that good – that way the media don’t hassle me when I try to make my entrance, like they have done in previous years; neither do security for that matter.

During my trip in Afghanistan, I met and spent a bit of time with my friend Tony Stark. It was really fun to spend time in a hole in the middle of nowhere. we had couscous, lamb… With Omar (at the right side on the picture) we helped him to build his ARK micro power Wifi rooter. It’s a powerfull internet rooter that makes an intensive light. An amazing master piece. But Tony, a wifi rooter needs to be plug to a internet connexion, right ? how do you want me to “work from home” without internet access? Ahhh Tony, I just couldn’t do it from there. Call me when you leave the desert, ok ?

So many people write to me; some can even spell; sometimes they make sense, bless them; but mostly people whine about things that they should just accept and get on with – I really didn’t write the software you know. I also recycle, plant trees and care for homeless kittens. My big interest is global destruction and complete power; you will bow down to me. I wanted to talk to you about a good friend of mine.

Among the attractions of cinema, there is the origin of Shrek!
The design of his character is not due to chance but to a model which existed, appointed Mauritius Tillett born in 1903 in France.
This man was a wrestler but has developed a rare disease whose symptoms are uncontrolled growth of bone mass (as in the movie Mask and not the Mask). Having been a victim of ridicule, he fled France to settle in the USA where he became a champion of struggle, known at the time, the ogre of the rings. He died at the age of 51 years.
Yes, reading my blog, you will learn new things…

I really love cinema, I could even say, the camera loves me … that what George was repeating me all night long, standing drunk at the bar of the Carlton Hotel at 4 am…

The night before, he introduced me Harrison and Steven. Cool Guys! While finding his way to the toilet of the disco club, with David Getta, our Dj for the night, George told that he wanted me to be the main character of his next super production – “promises in the night never see daylight…” that what we say. But surprisingly, that is how I ended up with these guys on the picture: The next day, we all went at the beach of the Carlton Hotel, to shoot few scenes of George next super production and in the evening, invited for an interview by the French TV, “Canal plus”.

To tell you the truth, I just didn’t feel like pursuing the job with them. I need to focus on my real “work from home” tasks, and I am already booked by the BBC for a report in Iraq and Afganistan. Late at night, I had to say “good bye” to my new friends. I promised i would pay them a visit in L.A. as soon as I would have a bit of time for me and my chinchillas

Me on TV

Me on TV

It doesn’t matter what is happening in the world, what events are making the headlines, I am just in big demand from the media. When they want to know more, have that extra insight, get the inside story, they call me up and say “Tora, we need you on this!”.

Other ‘experts’ get to voice their opinions but usually it is only when I am unavailable – I have some really funny stories about this, especially during one book signing (‘My Life with Volcanoes’) when I just couldn’t make it to New York, the ‘expert’ they found just broke down and said he could no longer do it, they just flew a film crew round and begged me to fill in (pictured left); you just have to laugh sometimes. The price of being on TV all the time is that I can no longer go out without disguising myself; even here in Bucharest they know me and ask my opinions about things expecting me to solve their ‘problems’; but hey, someone has to do it.

But people, when you see me shopping in Tommy Hilfiger, just because I go for that yellow sweater does not mean you should buy the same; Tommy calls me up and asks me to be a bit more discreet, they just can’t keep up with production. Huh, like it is my problem!

Volcanic Rock Warms My Soul July 16, 2008

Look at that gorgeous volcanic rock!

My love of both volcanoes and chinchillas started as a child.  When Mount St. Helens exploded, I stole my mom’s car and drove there, just to watch the ash float through the sky.  I was only 8.   That trip also led to my love of chinchillas – In search of a travel companion I stopped by a pet store and stole a chinchilla, Mrs. Snaggletooth was her name.

Upon arriving at Mount St. Helens, I was consumed by watching ash fall around me… it was like a rainfall of smoke precipitating after being barfed from the mouth of the earth.   My chinchilla, Mrs. Snaggletooth, also enjoyed the ash, but in a different way.  Mrs. Snaggletooth loved to use the fallen ash as a dust bath.

Years later, Mrs.Snaggletooth is no longer with me, but I am now the proud father of her 26 great grandchildren.  Mrs. Snaggletooth loved fresh volcanic ash, and passed this loved town to her descendants.  All 26 great-grandchildren of Mrs.Snaggletooth refuse to take dust baths in anything except fresh volcanic ash.

Here I am ‘working from home’ on the side of a volcano, which is just starting to sprinkle down flakes of joy for me to carry home to Mrs.Snaggletooth’s beloved descendants. I miss you Mrs.Snaggletooth – I hope that there are lots of volcanoes in chinchilla heaven!
